Volunteer Cycling Rangers Project, Tower Hamlets
Transport Initiatives can help you be part of the “Big Society”. Working in collaboration with local user groups has been popular for years, but in Tower Hamlets TI is formalizing the process to the benefit of all partners
TI has engaged local people who cycle regularly as cycling rangers to:
Volunteers depicting their ‘Ranger Area’
on a map of the borough at a recruitment event
- Report potholes and other street faults
- Identify and report on small scale “permeability” improvements
- Make suggestions for improving on street cycle parking
To date the 30 rangers have suggested 40 improvements and 12 new locations for parking. Their fault reporting has increased Tower Hamlets “fixed rate” from 37% to 50% boosting the council into the top 20 Highway Authorities.
The Local Ranger model is applicable to any council.
